01The app asked for permission to my Downloads folder. Is that normal?
Yes, and it is macOS asking, not the app. Without that grant there is no way to read the folder. You can allow or revoke it whenever you like in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, in the Files and Folders list.
02Does the app delete my files?
No. The only destructive action is moving to the Trash, and it always asks first, showing the list of what will move. Until you empty the Trash, everything can be recovered through Finder.
03Many files show up with no source. Why?
The source address is written by the browser or app that downloaded the file. Files that arrived over AirDrop, by manual copy, from the command line, or that came out of a .zip carry no such record.
The app never hides those files, precisely because they are the ones it understands least and the ones most likely to hold something that matters.
04Why does it say “looks related” instead of “duplicate”?
Because the same name does not mean the same content. There is a real case of two folders sharing a name and the same file names inside, one at 3.3 GB and the other at 119 MB: they were different resolutions of the same material.
The app only claims what it can prove. Where it has not compared content, it says the files look related and leaves the decision to you.
05How is this different from Hazel?
Hazel is excellent and has been around for over a decade, but it starts from rules you write. Downloads Inbox starts from what the system already knows about each file and needs no rules at all to give you a first useful answer.
06Does it work offline?
Always. The app never touches the network, so your connection makes no difference to it.
07How do I request a refund?
Apple processes purchases, so refunds go through them, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app prompted the request, write to us too: it turns into a fix for the next release.
08I found a problem or want to suggest something
Write to [email protected]. A bug report with your macOS version and the steps that led to it becomes a fix far faster.
